I’ve been a data scientist for a year and a half now and I completely agree with your observations. It’s a very good point about taking time to really go deep into your domain. I would also emphasize the importance of knowing how to balance data exploration and fine tuning your model with the imperative to execute within a given time frame. I would also say to all data scientists — leave all the technical jargon out of your business presentations because no one cares and instead focus on business value and actionable insights.
