This is beautiful Jacqueline. What people want is safety and an easy answer to their problems. Even if banning muslims, refugees, etc. will not actually make them safer, if it feels like it does then that’s good enough and facts to the contrary are not welcome. I think this goes to a deeper human need for permanence and security that are not possible. No matter how many walls you build, you could be struck down tomorrow by a car or by cancer. But inside everyone has a light that is eternal and that is permanent. I would argue we are looking for permanence and security in the wrong place — outside instead of within.
